Meet Alice – Yoga Teacher and Community Guide

Alice is a compassionate and adaptive yoga teacher dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive and empowering space for all students. She specialises in making yoga accessible for everyone regardless of age, ability, body size, ethnicity, gender, background or disability.

With a background as a teacher, childminder and foster carer, Alice has spent her life supporting others to grow and thrive. Having practised yoga for most of her life, she has always loved to move, learn and connect with her community.

Alice is qualified in Hatha Yoga, Restorative Yoga Nidra (Sleep Yoga), Yoga for Cancer and Accessible Yoga Teacher allowing her to support each student to tailor the practice to their individual needs. Her teaching style emphasises mindful movement, breath awareness and self-compassion, fostering holistic well-being and personal growth for every body.

Using props such as chairs, blocks and straps, Alice makes every class adaptable and accessible. She offers clear, invitational cues that normalise modifications and encourage students to honour their unique bodies and experiences.

Her classes at The Self Love Club, Auborough Street, Scarborough, include: Beginners, Chair Yoga, Gentle Yoga, Nidra, Restorative and Stretch and Strength, with options available for every ability. Check Facebook for current classes. Book for classes  at the Self-Love Club, Auborough Street, Scarborough, YO11 1HT

Beyond the mat, Alice believes in building genuine community. She hosts monthly Meditation/Journalling Circles, creating safe and nurturing spaces for connection and support. Alice also offers donation based Book Club, Craft Club, and Walking groups and regularly raises funds for Walk the Walk breast cancer charity.

Alice’s philosophy is simple but powerful: yoga is for every body. Through her warm and mindful approach, she invites students to let go of perfection and instead cultivate presence, compassion and a respectful relationship with themselves, whether that is on a mat, in a chair or simply in the moment.

What to expect in my classes:

Anyone can come to the class unless their Doctor or medical team say otherwise. If you are concerned speak with your doctor first. Before you start I will require you to complete a health questionnaire and a waiver. This is confidential and the information will not be shared with anyone. Be aware of your limitations and don’t push yourself too far. Nothing should be painful so if it hurts stop and re-adjust. If you find yourself holding your breath this is a sign to pause and take a few breaths. Beginners are welcome as are returners to yoga; you don’t need to be flexible to start yoga but hopefully you will see improvements in your physical and mental health, mobility, flexibility and balance over time. I also offer 1:1 classes or small groups too.

The yoga I provide is gentle and relaxed, you do everything at the level you feel able to do on the day. Options are given so you can decide what you want to do either on the floor on the mat or a chair or a variety of these – you choose. If you need to stop and rest this is OK; at any time either sit, lie down or find a position comfortable to you and join in when you are ready to start again or just lie down and enjoy the rest and music.

Bring your own mat or I can provide one for you if you let me know in advance. Each person can be provided with any equipment which may be required in the class such as a block or band. You may bring your own if you wish.

When you arrive leave your shoes at the door of the class, you can wear socks or have bare feet if you wish or you could wear some grippy socks too. Wear loose clothing you feel comfortable in such as leggings and a loose t-shirt. The room will be suitably warm; we can turn the heating up or down and open windows if necessary. Sign in and pay your fee if you haven’t already and notify me of any medical changes at the start of class. Please turn off your phone or have it on silent so it doesn’t interrupt the session. You may bring a water bottle if you think you will need a drink. There are accessible toilets nearby for you to use.

Payment in advance either the week before or online or bank transfer (ask for details) will secure your place. You can of course pay in cash on the day. Please note places are limited usually to 6 people so payment in advance will secure a place. If you have not paid you are not guaranteed a place. Please let me know if you would like to attend a class. The prices quoted are for group sessions. Prices for 1-to-1 or small groups are available upon application. You can pay as you go and you do not need to attend every week. The fee is for one class only and not refundable unless someone else can fill your place due to the small class sizes. I will try to get cover for a class if I cannot attend, if I cannot get a cover teacher you will be given a refund for that class if you have paid in advance.

The classes take on a similar format each time starting with an introduction; breath-work (you can just breath normally if you don’t want to join in); physical practices working in a flow with your breath at your own pace (I always offer options for you to choose to work at your own ability), holding a pose or moving faster if you wish; meditation and finishing with relaxation and a closing circle. You can opt out of any part of the session too. The length of each of these sections might vary each week. The relaxation part at the end is called Shavasana which is a lying down pose making yourself as comfortable as you wish with a blanket and eye mask. If you would prefer to sit this is OK too. We work on flexibility, mobility, strength, balance, meditation and relaxation throughout the session. I play music, natural sounds or chanting in the background at each session. For yoga nidra sessions, workshops and retreats the format will vary.

Sometimes we go out for a coffee after class so you are welcome to join us. My aim is to make the classes friendly, enjoyable and relaxed. I may also let you know about other activities that you may be interested in, these are organised by other people so you will need to book these independently. We also have a WhatsApp group to keep up-to-date with everything. If this isn’t for you I can message you separately.

Please ask if you are not sure of anything, would like to book a place or would like further advice, Alice 07985650941
